How do contextual factors shape their production, distribution, circulation and consumption of the magazine?

In an age where digital technology is dominant, having a website for a magazine is essential; younger people are more comfortable with using the internet than the older generation maybe. The website itself is updated rarely, it allows the adbusters foundation to allow the younger generation to access it. The website is deliberately confusing and makes little sense; it has a messy layout and you can often get lost.

Brand identity is the way the audience see the product and the company, Adbusters tries to subvert the typical brand identity; It uses a sophisticated lexis, a range of different font and styles.

The masthead changes on every article you click on, it's changing constantly which on a business perspective is very bad as it doesn't have a distinctive layout or design. Adbusters makes its revenue purely from the cover price, however it also gives the audience a chance to buy a subscription of the magazine, getting it delivered to you. There's also a donation button, they're asking for money. The website is deliberately edgy, controversial; we're seeing rules being broken which attracts an audience. There's a shop in which they can sell their own merchandise. However, Adbusters is an anti-consumerist, anti-capitalism company however they have a shop. They're selling copies of the meme-war on there for £191 and the only difference between that and the normal copy is that it has the pages made of sandpaper; which is contradicting their own ideology. The cover price of the magazine is £10.99 which implies the audience is wealthier and more educated, preaching to the converted. The website gives the audience access to things the magazine can't do; moving images, videos and background sounds.

The website extends the brand using hyperlinks, something beyond what a magazine can do. Digital convergence, the coming together of different digital things, this is what the Adbusters magazines gives the audience.

The magazine uses social media which again contradicts their ideologies again, they're arguing that social media is destroying our society, they're strictly against advertising; they're fairly hypocritical.
