Convergence - the coming together of two media industries
Synergy - Where the interconnectedness of media products lead to a result of more of the sum of its parts.
Franchise - When lots of different products are part as one bigger thing; star wars for example which has films, toys, videogames, etc.
differences between music videos and films:
- Music videos have shorter shot types
- Music videos are normally under 10 minutes long
- There are typically only a few characters in music videos
- Costume changes in music videos
- Films focus on dialogue
- Music videos often make extreme use of stereotypes
- Music videos often make use of intertextuality
- The amount of time covered in films is much longer than in music videos; atemporal.
Celebrity - The attribution of glamorous or notorious status to an individual in the public sphere
Lady Gaga - Applause:
- Costumes and makeup shows her extremeness and if you hadn't known about her before you would get an idea of what she's like
- She's known for being odd
- The mise-en-scene of the flashing cameras and strobe lights connotes paparazzis and their flashing cameras.
- The mise-en-scene of someone's hands being built into her bra connotes sex and demonstrates her celebrity status
- Her eye contact with the audience, breaking the fourth wall
- She's the only one in shot apart from when she's surrounded by dancers and even then she's the only one we really focus on.
Tyler the creator - Who dat boi:
- Wearing a white person's face, suggesting he doesn't want to be recognised by the public eye. Also suggests white people get treated better by society
- He advertises his own brand of clothing; it's bold and colourful he looks stereotypically white.
- Everything in the video is bright, through clothing or the setting
