Magazine : Woman/Adbusters

Woman - Hybrid magazine

The layout of the magazine is set out in a particularly way to maybe seem feminine, with the curly handwritten serif font. The primary target audience would be women aged between 30 and 50. The cover anchors the audience to feel as if women are suited for the lifestyle shown, the stay at home, beautiful women who cares for everything at home. Sexualisation can also be seen. The mise-en-scene of the pastel colours don't stand out - suggesting an ideal stereotype for women. Image clearly edited. Extremely white teeth, eyes and clear skin. Heavily airbrushed in order to make model stereotypically attractive; Her costume, a plunging dress showing the shoulders, potentially suggests she's willing to break stereotypes and is confident. "Are you an A-level Beauty" suggests a stereotypical assumption that women must be attractive in order to succeed in life.

Alfred Hitchcock: director of the Birds, North By Northwest and Psycho is asked to talk about women. Suggests the target female audience have no interest in arts and hobbies.

Soap advert :

- Aspirational image
- ‘Because you are a woman’ – assumes men would not be concerned about these things.
- Female is naked, clothed only in soap suds – conforms to stereotypical notions of female beauty – slender, perfectly made-up, hair slightly tousled, lips rounded to blow bubbles – subtle sexual connotations. Sense of objectification, even though it is a female magazine.

Makeup advert :

- Male behind her – sense that he is in control, protecting her
-  Female ‘needs’ make-up when she’s meeting an ‘exciting someone’ – needs to be beautiful for a male - dependent on male for acceptance

Les revenants - Cult audience

- Primary Target Audience – fans of zombie/supernatural texts = mainstream audience. 15+
- Secondary audience - more alternative/niche audience – younger fans e.g. students.
